James Kent returns as Perturbator with Age Of Aquarius, his sixth full-length and first for metal outpost Nuclear Blast. Where 2021's Lustful Sacraments fixated on addiction and vice, AOA squares up to the mess of contemporary life: tribalism, conflict, individualism run amok. Opening salvo 'Apocalypse Now' lays it bare, with Ulver's Kristoffer Rygg intoning over scorched electronics and precision-tooled drums. Kent's longtime cocktail of goth, techno, EBM and post-punk hits its fiercest pitch on 'The Art Of War', arguably his most ferocious production yet, and 'The Swimming Pool' harks back to his early video game soundtrack roots with gauzy piano melancholy, and Greta Link lending spectral voice to the swelling 'Lady Moon'. Written, produced and mixed entirely solo, this is Perturbator in panoramic form.
